Deja vu: Manning, Giants outlast Patriots in Super Bowl
Wed, 1 Feb 2012 3:00pm ET
Four years later, Eli Manning again got the best of Tom Brady on the NFLs biggest stage.

Manning drove the Giants 88 yards on nine plays, capped by Ahmad Bradshaws 6-yard scoring run with 57 seconds to play, and the New York Giants squeaked out a 21-17 victory over the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLVI on Sunday night in Indianapolis.

In a setting eerily familiar from their Super Bowl matchup in 2008, when Manning threw the winning touchdown pass with 35 seconds to play, the Giants used a dramatic late drive to capture the fourth Super Bowl championship in franchise history.

Manning earned his second Super Bowl MVP and won his third straight head-to-head matchup with Brady, including a 24-20 victory in Week 9 that snapped New Englands streak of 20 consecutive regular-season home victories.

The Patriots (15-4) had won 10 straight games since that loss, but again came up short against the Giants in their bid for a fourth Super Bowl title in 11 seasons. Read More

Preview: Texas at Texas A&M
Thu, 2 Feb 2012 9:00am ET

THE STORY: It’s the 222nd meeting between Texas and Texas A&M, but it very well could be the last. Barring a matchup in the Big 12 Tournament in March, these hated rivals won’t face each other again — at least for the foreseeable future — after the Aggies depart for the SEC next season. With a 22-7 record against Texas A&M during his 13-plus seasons in Austin, Texas coach Rick Barnes is no stranger to this rivalry. First-year Aggies coach Billy Kennedy, on the other hand, is facing Texas for just the second time after falling 61-51 in Austin on Jan. 11. Texas has won four straight in this series and is ahead 136-85 all-time. Read More
Preview: Missouri at Oklahoma
Tue, 31 Jan 2012 10:00pm ET

THE STORY: Fresh off one of the most dramatic victories in its programs history, No. 4 Missouri has to avoid a possible letdown when it visits Oklahoma. Even after the Tigers came from eight points down in the last two minutes to knock off hated rival Kansas on Saturday, coach Frank Haith didn’t allow his players to go out and celebrate with fellow students. Instead, he wanted them to get a good night’s rest for their trip to Norman, where the Sooners are 9-3 this season but are coming off a loss to Iowa State over the weekend. Read More

Recap: Minnesota 69, Nebraska 61
Tue, 31 Jan 2012 6:00am ET

MINNESOTA 69, NEBRASKA 61: Chip Armelin led a balanced scoring effort with 15 points Sunday as visiting Minnesota pulled out a 69-61 victory over Nebraska.

Julian Welch nailed all three of his 3-point attempts and was the only other player to finish in double figures with 10 points for the Golden Gophers (17-7, 5-6 Big Ten), who collected their third conference road win but will now face five ranked teams over their final seven games.

Minnesota, which shot 54 percent from the field, received 40 points from its bench as 10 players found the scoring column.

The Cornhuskers (11-11, 3-8 Big Ten) captured momentum going into the break on a 3-pointer by Caleb Walker at the buzzer to take a 33-32 lead, but could not find the basket for most of the second half as it missed 14 of its first 16 attempts.

The cold spell was just the opening Minnesota needed as it took control of the game for good with a 9-0 run after Bo Spencer hit a pair of free throws with 12:24 remaining.

Although the Huskers found their offense over the last six-plus minutes of the game, the Gophers continued to collect just about every loose ball and pulled away, due in part to their 15-4 advantage in second-chance points.

Bo Spencer scored 18 points to lead Nebraska, which fell to 10-4 this season when scoring at least 60 points. Read More

Wed, 1 Feb 2012 2:00pm ET

WEST VIRGINIA 87, PROVIDENCE 84: Darryl Bryant scored 32 points including a 3-pointer with 3.3 seconds left in overtime that gave visiting West Virginia an 87-84 victory over Providence.

Deniz Kilicli had four of his career-high 22 points in overtime and set a perfect screen for Bryant to drain his fifth 3-pointer of the game for the win.

Kevin Jones added 20 points for West Virginia (16-8, 6-5 Big East), which snapped a three-game losing streak. It was the ninth straight game with 20 points or more for Jones.

Gerard Coleman scored a career-high 30 points for Providence (13-11, 2-9 Big East), but missed one of two free throws with 10.9 seconds left in overtime. Vincent Council missed a 3-pointer at the buzzer for the Friars.

Providence made just four of eight from the free-throw line in the final 2:57 of regulation, allowing West Virginia to fight back to tie it at 76 on Bryant’s driving layup with four seconds remaining. The Mountaineers trailed by as many as 10 in the second half.

LaDontae Henton had 17 points and Council added 16 points and nine assists for Providence, which has lost eight straight to West Virginia.

Providence led by as many as 15 points in the opening 20 minutes, but settled for a 42-36 halftime lead. Bryce Cotton and Coleman combined for 23 points and 9-for-11 shooting in the first half for the Friars. Providence shot 63 percent before halftime. Read More
